Flying in Draenor

Flying is going to be enabled in Draenor!  However, there's a twist!Flying in Draenor

The topic of flight in Draenor has been a long standing debate all over the Battle.net World of Warcraft forums.  Senior Game Designer Ion Hazzikostas confirmed that flying in Draenor will be possible in patch 6.2, however there is a little twist to this.

Upcoming Changes to PTR

There will be a new PTR build pushed shortly that will introduce a new meta-achievement called Draenor Pathfinder.  To earn this achievement, you will need to master the outdoor environment of Draenor.  There are a few requirements to get Draenor Pathfinder:

  • Explore Draenor Zones
  • Collect 100 treasures
  • Completing Draenor Loremaster
  • Completing Securing Draenor
  • Raising three Tanaan Jungle reputations to Revered

This achievement will award a rylak mount, Soaring Skyterror, one of the native beasts of Draenor's skies.  However, players will remain ground-bound until a small follow-up patch (6.2.x), when all players who have earned Draenor Pathfinder on at least one character will unlock the ability to fly in Draenor on all level 90+ characters.

Ion Hazzikostas goes on to say:

"We believe this strikes the right balance between ensuring ground-based content lives up to its full potential, while providing players who've already fully experienced Draenor's outdoor world extra freedom to "break the rules."  This also provides a general blueprint going forward for content to come.  Players will explore new and undiscovered lands from the ground, and then once they've fully mastered those environments -- a notion that continues to evolve with each new expansion -- they can take to the skies and experience the world from a new vantage point."

Hope to see you all in and above Draenor soon!
