Thoughts on the Legion Pre-Patch -

The Legion Pre-Patch was released this past Tuesday.  What's different and what's broken?

Many players who use a lot of add-ons will see the pre-patch as the day most of their add-ons will break.  LUA errors all over the place and general chaos.  On the other hand, there have been a lot of improvements made to the game!

Which add-ons actually work?

We'll be publishing a list of up-to-date add-ons Soon(tm).  Only popular add-ons mostly everyone uses will be on the list, so keep an eye out for that!

What's different?

One of the first things I noticed while playing the Beta (the post was lost), was the ability to hide certain pieces of armor moved from the Interface menu to the Transmog system.  What that means, in a nutshell, is if you receive a better cloak or helm through questing/raiding and you equip it, you won't be able to hide it until the next time you visit a Transmog NPC.  In a way, I can understand why that was done.  If you look at it from a realism perspective:  Let's say you are in the middle of a battle.  If you remove your helmet, you lose the protection it offers.  In the game, the Transmog NPC uses some sort of ethereal magic to change your appearance without changing the stats of the armor.  A little convoluted, yes.  However, it made sense in my mind!

What's broken?

The forums are full of posts complaining about CRZ (Cross-realm Zones) being broken.  The complaints include players in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, and (to a lesser extent) Dalaran.  Players in those zones are reporting seeing people from every other realm, causing severe lag and general choppiness.

There is some good news!  Blizzard is very much aware of the issue and has been deploying many hotfixes in an attempt to resolve the issue.  It may take a little time to resolve the issue, but a fix is on the way!

This expansion has no content!

Prior to every major expansion's release, Blizzard has released the pre-expansion patch.  This pre-patch, is it's called, lays down the infrastructure of the expansion proper and also serves to work out any bugs or glitches that have slipped through the testing process.  It is NOT the expansion!  You will not be able to explore the Broken Isles, nor be able to participate in any Legion dungeons or raids just yet.  The actual expansion will go live around midnight Pacific Time on August 30th, 2016.
